A message from Gary J. Wojtan, Attorney at Law
I was alarmed to hear just recently that our nation’s nursing homes are laying off, cutting back and even closing due to newly announced deep federal and state spending cuts.
A rate adjustment by Medicare will cut an estimated $16 billion in funding for nursing homes over the next ten years. This was just instituted by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This is on top of extensive state-level cuts that have already sent the nursing home industry reeling.
The nursing home industry is headed for a major crisis and clearly, how our nation cares for its aging population is going to evolve very quickly.
Nursing home experts suggest that doors may be closing as a result of the funding crisis. And as the baby boomers continue to get older, the need for care is even greater.
As an active elder law practitioner, I assist seniors and their families who struggle with issues surrounding estate planning, long-term care, Medicaid rules, Medicare, nursing home issues and other concerns. As a team, we make decisive, planful decisions that help everyone in the family sleep better at night.
If you or a loved one become affected by these huge economic changes that will dramatically impact our ability to care for our aging loved ones, don’t hesitate to give me a call.
We can roll up our shirtsleeves and find creative solutions to these most pressing matters.
