The Court Clerks are not permitted to give legal advice, so please do not ask.

If your court date has passed, you will be notified by USPS mail of your new appearance date. You may also call the court office for options.

Defendant Responsibilities

• It is the defendant’s responsibility to ensure the court has their current mailing address.
• Only defendants and their attorneys may enter the courtroom.
  • If the defendant is under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must accompany them.
• No children or guests are permitted during court proceedings.
• Dress Code: No shorts allowed. Appropriate casual attire is required.

Driver Improvement School

If you were ordered to complete Driver Improvement School as part of your plea, you must:

• Complete the course and
• Submit your certificate of completion to the court within 60 days of your court date.

Court Rules

• You must be on the calendar to attend court. Do not appear unless you are scheduled.
• If unsure, call the court to confirm your status.
• Payments must be made during clerk office hours, by mail, or through the court drop box — not during court sessions.
• No cell phones, electronic devices, bags, backpacks, or food are allowed in the building.
• Appropriate dress is required — no shorts, hats, sunglasses, pajamas, revealing or vulgar clothing, or swimwear.
• Security screening is required for every entry and re-entry.

“Fix-It” Ticket Dismissals

• Inspections are not dismissible in New York State.
• For qualifying VTL violations (§§ 375, 376, and 381) — except when both headlamps are defective or when violations involve service brakes or audio systems — tickets may be dismissed if:
  • Proof is submitted that the defect was corrected before ½ hour after sunset on the first full business day after issuance (VTL §376-a).

Payment Options

By Mail:

• Certified Bank Checks or Money Orders in U.S. dollars
• Money orders must be signed on the “purchaser’s signature” line.
• Include your date of birth or docket number for identification.

In Person:

• Cash, VISA, or MasterCard accepted during office hours.
• A 2.99% service fee applies to all card payments.

Important Payment Notes:

• No personal checks, online, or phone payments accepted.
• The drop box is located outside the Town Hall entrance (to the right).
  • Place all payments or correspondence in a clearly labeled envelope.
  • Ensure handwriting is legible and includes identifying information.
• Coins are no longer accepted.
• All bail payments are subject to a mandatory 3% poundage fee.

• DA: Misdemeanors & Felonies – Thursday nights
• Court sessions begin at 6:00 PM
