Fine Payments & Small Claim Filings

Accepted Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Payments may be made by:

• Cash
• Money order
• MasterCard or Visa

A 2.99% service fee applies to all credit or debit card transactions.

Personal checks are not accepted.

Small Claim Filings

Applications to file small claims are available at the Court Office.

Small Claims proceedings may be brought by any individual against someone who resides, owns a business, or works within the Town of Elma.

Maximum claim amount: $3,000

Filing fee:

• $10 if the claim is $1,000 or less
• $15 if the claim is $1,001–$3,000

Filing fees are payable when submitting your application.

Traffic Ticket Pleas

If you receive a traffic ticket and wish to enter your plea by mail, complete the appropriate section on your ticket and mail it to the Court.

• If you plead guilty:
  The Judge will review your case, assess any fine(s) and surcharge(s), and you will receive a bill with payment instructions.
• If you plead not guilty:
  The Court will schedule you to appear and speak with the Town Prosecutor and will notify you by mail of your court date.

If you plead by mail, you do not need to appear in court on the date listed on your ticket.

Please allow 6–8 weeks to receive a response from the court.

Note:
Mail-in pleas are allowed only for traffic violations.
If charged with a misdemeanor or felony, you must appear in person on the date directed on your ticket to enter your plea.
