Court Rules & Appearance Guidelines

Due to limited courtroom capacity, please limit those accompanying you to:

• A parent or guardian (if you are a minor)
• Someone providing necessary assistance
• Your attorney

Dress Code:

• Appropriate attire is required.
• No shorts or tank tops are permitted in the courtroom.

Small Claims & Civil Matters

Filing Hours:

• Tuesdays: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
• Fridays: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

The person or business being filed against must have a Town of Tonawanda address. Applications for Small Claims or Civil filings are accepted by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (716) 879-3524.

Small Claims and Civil cases are scheduled monthly.
To confirm a specific date, contact the Court Clerk’s Office at (716) 876-5536.

Evictions

Eviction paperwork may be submitted anytime the court window is open, except on Friday afternoons after 3:00 PM.

The Court will not accept eviction paperwork after that time.

The Town of Tonawanda Justice Court holds both criminal and vehicle & traffic court sessions throughout the week.

• Criminal Court: Scheduled during daytime sessions
• Vehicle & Traffic Court: Scheduled during evening sessions

Specific dates and times are assigned based on case type and court availability. If you have received a notice by mail, follow the instructions provided in your letter. Seating capacity in the courtroom is limited; appearance times are assigned accordingly.

To appear in traffic court, you must first submit a plea of Not Guilty to the Court Office and wait for an appearance date to be scheduled.
